Instagram Trending Hashtags

See which hashtags gained the most posts on Instagram in the last 24 hours — and how long your post actually stays on each one's first screen before it is buried.

Copy a Trending Hashtag Set

Built from what moved on Instagram in the latest reading. Pick by what you want — a wider audience, or your post staying on screen longer. Each set shows the measured trade-off.

Balanced Recommended

Typically on a first screen for 88 minutes

#digitalmarketingpakistan #parentinghumor #marketingautomation #rakhihampers #rakhi #viralpost

A spread of sizes. The smaller hashtags keep your post on screen long enough to be found; the one or two large ones widen who could stumble on it.

Stays visible longest

Typically on a first screen for 4 hours

#carbonfiber #beachphotography #indianfoodlovers #homebaking #flawlessmakeup #airconditioning

The quietest hashtags we track on this topic. Fewer people browse them, but your post sits near the top far longer — usually the better trade for a newer account.

Biggest audience

Typically on a first screen for 6 minutes

#reels #dogsofinstagram #nailart #digitalart #smallbusiness

The largest hashtags here. Many people browse them, but posts arrive so fast that yours is pushed down almost immediately — worth it only alongside smaller ones.

Instagram allows 30 hashtags, but more is not better — a handful that genuinely describe your post beats a long list of loosely related ones, which mostly places you in feeds where nobody engages. These sets are deliberately short for that reason.

Where You Can Still Get Seen Today

Hashtags busy enough that people are browsing them, but not so busy that your post disappears. Measured in the last reading — these are the ones worth your slots.

What This Tool Actually Tells You

Four things a lifetime post count cannot tell you — and what to do with each.

Which topics are surging today

When a subject starts moving — a festival, a match, a release — its hashtags climb first. That is a signal to make content about that topic, which is the part that actually travels. Tagging alone does not.

Where you would be invisible

Some hashtags take thousands of posts an hour. Post there and you are buried in seconds. Seeing the rate before you choose saves you from spending tags on places you cannot be seen.

Hashtags you can realistically rank in

Smaller, active hashtags keep your post visible far longer. We label competition per hashtag so a new account can pick the ones where it has a genuine chance of being found.

A balanced set, built for you

Search any topic and you get a ready set weighted towards small and mid-size hashtags with a few large ones — copy it straight into your post.

How Long Does Your Post Stay Visible?

Every other tool grades a hashtag's crowding with a word — "high", "low", a score out of 100. None of that tells you what to do. So we worked out the same thing in seconds.

A hashtag's page shows the newest posts first. So the faster posts arrive, the sooner yours is pushed off the first screen. Because we measure how many posts each hashtag actually receives, we can turn that into a plain answer:

#viralpost 3 minutes 12.37 posts/min
#bridalmakeupartist 2 hours 0.37 posts/min
#mentalhealthpodcast 20 hours 0.03 posts/min

That is the difference between a hashtag being worth using and being decoration. In the fastest ones, a post is gone before anybody could realistically see it. In a quieter, well-matched one, it can sit there for an hour or more — which is when people actually find you.

How it is worked out, plainly: we measure the posts-per-minute figure — that part is counted, not estimated — and divide a screenful of posts by it. We treat a screenful as about 36 posts. Instagram does not publish that number and it shifts with screen size, so read the result as a scale rather than a stopwatch: seconds, minutes or hours is the part that decides anything, and that part holds.

Do Hashtags Increase Reach on Instagram?

The honest answer, and what to do with it.

Short answer: no. Hashtags help people find your post. They do not make Instagram show it to more people.

This matters because most hashtag tools imply the opposite. Instagram has stated publicly that hashtags do not meaningfully boost reach, and it removed the ability to follow a hashtag altogether. What actually decides how far a reel or post travels is how people respond to it:

  • Watch time — how long people stay before scrolling
  • Shares and sends — the strongest signal of the three
  • Saves and comments — evidence the post was worth returning to

Adding thirty hashtags changes none of those. So if a tool tells you a hashtag set will make you go viral, it is selling you something that does not work that way.

So what are hashtags still good for?

Two things, and both are real. First, search: people do search topics on Instagram, and hashtags are how posts get organised for that. Second, topic signalling: they tell Instagram what your post is about, which helps it reach the right audience rather than a bigger one.

Both of those depend on choosing hashtags where you can actually surface — which is exactly what a rate tells you and a lifetime total does not.

How to use this page properly

Treat the trending table as a content signal, not a tagging list. If a topic is climbing, the winning move is to make something about it — the hashtag is how people then find it. Then use the search box to build a set around your actual subject, leaning on the small and mid-size hashtags where your post stays visible long enough to be discovered.

How This Compares to Other Hashtag Tools

Hootsuite runs a live, timestamped tracker — but of the ten entries at the top when we looked, eight were names like Manchester United and BTS rather than hashtags you could put on a post, and it counts mentions across networks rather than posts on Instagram.

Flick has the right columns — competition, daily posts, total posts — but every value sits behind an “Unlock Metrics” button, so the public page shows hashtag names and nothing else.

best-hashtags.com ranks #1 and #2 in India for this search. The page we checked was last updated on 2 April 2026 and reported “Posts per hour: 0”.

HypeAuditor offers a free tracker with a country filter. We could not trigger its results during our check, so we make no claim about the figures it returns.

The honest summary: good tools already exist here. What none of them gave us was the one number a creator can act on — how long a post actually stays visible — so that is the number we built.

Where These Numbers Come From

Because a number you cannot check is not worth showing.

2,984 hashtags tracked
12,115 readings recorded
6 measurement rounds
25 Aug 2026, 02:49 last reading

Instagram publishes only a hashtag's current total — never its history. So "how many posts in the last 24 hours" cannot be bought from any API; it only exists if someone measures repeatedly and keeps every reading. That is what we do, and the figures above say exactly how much has been measured and when.

We also refuse to quote a rate we cannot support. If a hashtag moved too little between readings to separate real posts from measurement noise, the page says it is still being measured instead of printing a confident-looking number.

How It Works

1 We read every hashtag's count

Once a day, at 01:40 IST, the current post count of every tracked hashtag is read and stored.

2 We compare two readings

The difference is how many posts were made in between. Not an estimate — a count.

3 We compare it to its own normal

Running faster than its own weekly average is what "trending" actually means.

4 We build a balanced set

Mostly small and mid-size hashtags, a few large ones — visibility plus reach.

Instagram Hashtags: Frequently Asked Questions

Does Instagram still use hashtags in 2026?

Yes, but not for the reason most people think. Hashtags are how Instagram organises content for SEARCH and topic discovery — they are not a distribution lever. Instagram has said publicly that hashtags do not meaningfully increase reach, and it removed the ability to follow a hashtag. So they still matter for being findable; they do not make a post travel further.

Do hashtags increase reach on Instagram?

On their own, no. Reach is driven by watch time, shares, saves and comments — how people respond to the post. Adding thirty hashtags changes none of those. What hashtags do change is whether someone searching that topic can find you, which is a smaller but real benefit, and it is the one this tool is built to help with.

How many hashtags should I use on an Instagram post?

Instagram allows up to 30 per post, but the number is not the lever. A focused set of 5 to 15 hashtags that genuinely describe the post works better than 30 loosely related ones, because irrelevant tags put your post in feeds where nobody engages with it. Relevance beats quantity every time.

How do I find trending hashtags on Instagram?

Instagram itself has no trending-hashtags list — not in the app and not in any public API. The only way to know which hashtags are gaining posts right now is to record their post counts repeatedly and compare the readings. That is what this page does: it stores a reading for every tracked hashtag each day and publishes the difference.

How often is this hashtag data updated?

Every tracked hashtag is re-measured once a day, at 01:40 IST, and every number on this page carries the exact window it was measured over — so if a reading is missed, the page shows the real elapsed time rather than assuming 24 hours. A hashtag we have not managed to measure for 36 hours is dropped from the table rather than shown with a stale figure. The extra twelve hours beyond the daily cycle are deliberate slack: without them a single slow run would empty the page.

Why not just look at a hashtag's total post count?

Because a total only ever goes up, so it reads the same every day and cannot tell you whether a hashtag is alive. A hashtag with 10 million posts may be getting almost none today, while a smaller one may be moving fast. What decides whether your post is seen is how many other posts arrive alongside it — a rate, not a total.

Should a small account use the biggest hashtags?

Usually not. In a hashtag receiving thousands of posts an hour, a new post is pushed out of sight within seconds. A workable set is mostly small and mid-size hashtags, where a post stays visible long enough to be found, plus a few large ones for reach. This tool builds that mix for you automatically.

How many hashtags does Instagram allow per post?

Thirty on a feed post or reel, and up to ten on a story. That is the ceiling, not a target — Instagram itself has said a smaller, more relevant set works better, and using all thirty on an unrelated topic places your post in feeds where nobody engages with it.

Are hashtags still relevant on Instagram?

Yes, for search and categorisation — not for reach. People still search topics on Instagram, and hashtags are how posts get organised for that. What changed is that they no longer push your post to more feeds, so they are a findability tool rather than a growth lever.

How do hashtags work on Instagram?

A hashtag is a label. When you add one, your post joins that hashtag's page alongside every other post using it, newest first. So the faster posts arrive on a hashtag, the sooner yours is pushed down. That is the number this page measures — how long a new post stays near the top before it is buried.

What hashtags should I use on Instagram?

Ones that actually describe your post, and mostly small to mid-size ones. A hashtag receiving thousands of posts an hour buries you in seconds; a quieter, well-matched one can keep you on screen for an hour. Search your topic above and the tool builds that mix for you, with the measured time attached to each.

Should hashtags go in the caption or the first comment?

It makes no difference to how the post performs — Instagram reads both the same way. Putting them in the first comment only keeps the caption looking clean. Choose whichever you prefer; it is a presentation decision, not a reach one.

Can I use the same hashtags on every post?

You can, but it works against you when the set stops matching what you are posting. A hashtag only helps if somebody browsing it wants your kind of post. A fixed block copied under everything ends up describing your average post rather than the one in front of it — which is exactly what the check above is for.

Why do some hashtags show no data on this page?

Because we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. Two things cause it: we may not be tracking that hashtag yet, or Instagram may have stopped updating its post count — measured on 25 August, 46 per cent of the hashtags we track had not moved at all across a 19-hour window, and #love is frozen at 2,147,483,647, the maximum a 32-bit counter can hold. In both cases we say so instead of guessing.

Is this Instagram hashtag tool free?

Yes. There is no login, no signup and no limit on searches. You can copy any hashtag set straight into your post.
